Author Guidelines

General Information for Paper Submission

The Editorial Board welcomes manuscripts that have never been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. The work must not be an extended version of previously published papers in conferences and/or journals.

JENDELA is a refereed journal dedicated to the publication of research in the areas of English discourse, linguistics, literature, applied linguistics, ELT, and cultural/media studies. See Focus and Scope for the specific topics covered in this journal.

JENDELA does not charge any fees for submission or publication.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal may have up to five authors. Each author may propose only one manuscript per issue, and an author’s name may appear only once per issue (as first author, co-author, or corresponding author). This policy ensures a diverse range of contributions within each volume.

Manuscripts must be written in English, with a main body of 5,000–7,000 words (excluding abstract and references). Manuscripts must follow the provided template, which can be downloaded here: [Manuscript Template].

To ensure quality and readability, the editorial team may use Grammarly or similar tools to review grammar and language features.

All manuscripts must conform to the APA 7th Edition referencing style. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote, and to check citation accuracy with tools such as Reciteworks. Before submission, please remove all embedded reference codes (e.g., Mendeley or EndNote fields) to avoid formatting issues during editing.

Each manuscript will be checked for similarity index and AI-generated content using Turnitin. This process occurs twice:

  1. Before manuscripts are forwarded to reviewers, and
  2. Before publication, if a manuscript is accepted.

The journal reserves the right to reject manuscripts with a similarity index or AI-generated content exceeding 25%. Only manuscripts with a combined similarity/AI index of 25% or less are considered for publication.

All manuscripts must be submitted via the Open Journal System (OJS) at https://journal.maranatha.edu/index.php/jendela. Submissions by email will not be processed.

Manuscripts should be uploaded in DOC or DOCX format.

As JENDELA employs a double-blind review process, author details (names, affiliations, ORCID IDs, and contact information) must be provided only on a Cover Sheet, which is uploaded separately together with the manuscript. The manuscript itself must be fully anonymized (including metadata and self-references). Please refer to: [Cover Sheet] and [De-identification Guidelines].

Manuscripts that do not adhere to the journal’s scope, style, length, language standards, plagiarism/AI detection threshold, or referencing guidelines will be rejected. Authors may resubmit revised versions, but these must be uploaded as new submissions.

The corresponding author will be notified of the initial editorial decision (accepted for review or rejected) within four weeks of submission. Manuscripts that pass preliminary screening will undergo double-blind review (see Peer Review Process).

Authors can expect a publication process of three to six months, assuming that only minor revisions are required.

The editorial team reserves the right to reject manuscripts without providing detailed reasons. Manuscripts not published remain the property of the author(s) and may be submitted elsewhere.

The list of authors (including order and affiliations) must be finalized at submission. No additions, removals, or rearrangements of authors will be permitted after submission. All authors are required to include their ORCID ID on the cover sheet.
