Fear of Missing Out dan Social Media Addiction: Study Meta Analisis

Abstrak

Di era globalisasi ini, jaringan internet menjadi faktor utama dalam mengakses informasi untu menjalankan kehidupan sehari hari seperti untuk pendidikan, bisnis, kesehatan, pemerintahan dan juga juga kegiatan sosial serta hiburan. Jaringan internet yang mudah diakses dapat memberikan pemenuhan kebutuhan terkoneksi dan rasa ingin tahu dengan cepat sehingga berpotensi untuk memunculkan perilaku penggunaan internet bermasalah (problematic internet use / PIU) dan perasaan takut tertinggal karena melewatkan informasi atau peristiwa berharga (fear of missing out / FoMO). Penelitian yang memeriksa hubungan FoMO dan PIU sudah banyak dilakukan, untuk itu perlu diketahui besar effect size dari hasil penelitian yang ada sebelumnya sebagai acuan untuk penelitian lanjutan terkait FoMO dan PIU. Penelitian ini melihatkan 19 artikel publikasi internasional dari tahun 2019-2024. Hasil random effect size menunjukan ukuran efek size yang sedang ( r = 0.461 ; z = 12.368 p = < 0.001; 95% CLI [ 0.388 ; 0.534]). Temuan ini menunjukan perasaan takut tertinggal karena melewatkan informasi dan peristiwa berharga dapat menjadi prediktor bagi munculnya perilaku penggunaan internet yang bermasalah. Menggunakan internet bermasalah terjadi karena individu dengan perasaan takut tertinggal informasi dan peristiwa berharga melakukan koping untuk untuk meredakan perasaan negatif yaitu cemas akibat takut melewatkan informasi atau peristiwa penting dengan menggunakan internet secara berlebihan. Hasil hitung efek size FOMO dan PIU memberikan peluang untuk dilakukan uji moderasi dan mediasi bagi penelitian FoMO dan PIU lebih lanjut.
