Peran Teacher Support terhadap Student Engagement melalui Basic Needs Satisfaction pada Siswa SMA

Abstrak

Riset menunjukkan bahwa teacher support dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa dalam aktivitas di sekolah atau yang dikenal dengan school engagement. Siswa yang engage, lebih mampu beradaptasi dan memperlihatkan prestasi akademik yang lebih baik. Guru sebagai figur otoritas di sekolah berperan dalam memberikan dukungan yang dibutuhkan siswai. Bentuk-bentuk dukungan yang dapat diberikan guru kepada siswa meliputi teacher involvement, teacher autonomy support dan teacher structure. Bagaimana teacher support ini berpengaruh terhadap school engagement siswa SMA, akan dilihat berdasarkan kerangka teori Basic Needs Satisfaction, yaitu melalui pemenuhan kebutuhan psikologis dasar siswa berupa pemenuhan need for conpetence, need for autonomy dan need for relatedness. Pengambilan data dengan menggunakan kuesioner Teacher Support yang dikonstruk peneliti berdasarkan teori Klem dan Connell (2004), kuesioner Basic Needs Satisfaction merupakan adaptasi dari alat ukur “Feeling I Have” yang dikonstruk oleh Deci dan Ryan (2000), sedangkan untuk kuesioner School Engagament dikonstruk oleh peneliti berdasarkan teori Fredricks, Blumenfeld dan Paris (2004). Pengolahan data dilakukan dengan Analisis Mediasi. Hasil pengolahan data menunjukkan bahwa Teacher Support dapat meningkatkan School Engagement siswa secara langsung maupun secara tidak langsung melalui ketiga jenis Basic Needs Satisfaction (mediasi parsial). Penelitian ini memberikan implikasi agar sekolah lebih fokus mengembangkan kemampuan guru-guru dalam memberikan dukungan involvement, autonomy dan structure.
